When to visit
The Pantanal offers different experiences throughout the year. From March through June everything is green, the water levels are high, the scenery is lush and beautiful, and you enjoy views of extensive grasslands as you drive along the rivers. Due to the extensive water, the fish and animals are quite visible, but are more evenly-scattered than in the driest months. Giant Otters are seen often, but not daily, during these months.
In July through October, you experience a dry Pantanal with amazingly high concentrations of wading birds, caimans, and Capybaras in certain locations along the Transpantaneira Road. During these months, Jaguars often walk along and sit on the white sand beaches and forested riverbanks. In 2007, we also saw a lot of Jaguars on the riverbanks in June, November, and December 2007 |

Weather warning:
Ten percent of the days during the May-through-September "dry season" experience cold fronts sweeping north into the Pantanal from Patagonia. These days are cold, windy, and even rainy, with high temperatures of 9-12 degrees Celsius (48-54 degrees F). For windy, cold boat rides, bring rainwear and warm winter coats and hats. Ninety percent of the days from May through October are hot and sunny. |
