Jaguar Research Center

Located in the north-central Pantanal of Brazil, a mere 4h by road from Cuiabá jetport, the Jaguar Research Center tented camp clearly is the world's leading location to see and photograph wild Jaguars. JRC is the only lodge in history that guarantees viewing of Jaguars. As the JRC Jaguars are at world-record density and spend most of their time on the riveredge hunting their favorite prey, namely Paraguayan Caimans and Capybaras, you can see the cats of JRC regularly without resorting to any Africa-style baiting or feeding.

Since 2005, JRC has shown wild Jaguars to thousands of guests during the day, often for hours per day.   By the end of 2010,  JRC will have logged more than 1,200 Jaguar sightings in 900 days on which guests were in camp.   The total time spent observing natural behavior of wild Jaguars is now 1,000 h, 10 times more than all Jaguar observations combined of all other Jaguar researchers in history.

The term “guaranteed Jaguars” means that if you stay three nights at JRC and do not see a Jaguar, we offer you three free days within two years.   Furthermore, JRC is open all year for Jaguar viewing, as our original research shows that our big cats are visible in every month.  Although most of the Pantanal IS hard to access from January through April, JRC is accessible all year thanks to the “Transpantaneira”, the only long, raised road that penetrates the wild heart of the Pantanal.
